Suffolk supplies free fire alarms to deaf and hard of hearing people

Suffolk Fire and Rescue are one of the first authorities in the UK to fit specially designed smoke alarms for residents of the county. The alarms come with a flashing light, a sound alert and an under-pillow vibrating pad.

The RNID have expressed their support for Suffolk as they lead the way in trying to solve this major problem. 33% of people with a hearing loss have difficulty waking up to a conventional smoke alarm and 25% say they would struggle to know if an alarm went off during the day.
