Complaints which have been made by chronic pain sufferers about
the discomfort caused by speed bumps have prompted disability rights
campaigner Judith McCorrie to launch a petition asking Fife Council
to take away its speed bumps.
Many people with disabilities find that they have to avoid certain
roads because of the pain they suffer.
Judith McCorrie claims that speed bumps represent a form of discrimination
against disabled people and has called on the council to stop using
humps as its main means for calming traffic.
Fife Council's transport department has tried out a number of traffic
calming schemes using a range of different measures, including speed
bumps and speed cushions and says its decisions to go with speed
bumps are based on the individual site and the response to local
consultation.
