How nice to see, that more is being done to make it easier for
people with all types of disabilities to be able to visit theatres
in and around London.
Access London Theatre has been set up to make a visit
to the theatre much more accessible.
Newer venues tend to have good access for wheelchair users and
people with limited mobility while improvements at some older venues
are restricted by the conditions of their status as listed buildings.
You can now go to many theatres and see performances Audio Described,
Captioned and Sign language Interpreted as well as having many other
accessible facilities.
Access
London Theatre is run from The Society of London Theatre, which
was founded in 1908 and is the trade association that represents
the producers, theatre owners and managers of the major commercial
and grant-aided theatres in central London.
The Access London Theatre brochure is free and printed 3 times
a year. It lists all 350 audio described, captioned and sign language
interpreted performances, ranging across childrens theatre,
drama, musicals and opera. It is an invaluable tool for anyone who
finds it hard to see or hear everything that is taking place on
stage.
