WHAT IS MOTABILITY?
Motability is the name of the organisation set up by the government to help disabled people who receive the Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance, or the War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement (WPMS),with leasing or buying a car,wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV),powered wheelchair or scooter.
The allowance, part or all of it covers the cost of a new car,powered wheelchair or scooter and is transferred by the Disability Benefits Unit.

WHAT IS THE DISABILITY LIVING ALLOWANCE (DLA)?
(DLA) is a tax-free benefit for children and adults,who need help with personal care or have walking difficulties because they are physically or mentally disabled.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE MOTABILITY SCHEME?
You must be receiving the Higher Rate of the Mobility Component (£42.30) of the DLA or the War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement to be eligible for the Motability scheme.

The Mobility Roadshow 2006
This years Mobility Roadshow was held at Kemble Airfield, near Swindon.
The Roadshows unique attraction has always been the chance to test drive a range of adapted and specialist vehicles.
Many visitors had the opportunity to test drive vehicles on show, for accessibility, comfort and handling.
Amongst the many exhibitors were: Chevrolet Motability, Hyundai Motability, Mitsubishi Motability, (with the Mitsubishi Colt, with no advance payment,) Nissan Motability, Citroen Motability, Peugeot Motability, Vauxhall, Saab, Chrysler motability, Suzuki Motability, Mazda Motability, Fiat Motability, Volkswagen Motability, Toyota, Mercedes Benz Motability, Ford Motability, Honda Motability and the range of Smart cars for Motability.
One of the great benefits of Motability and the Motability scheme,is that in many instances there are no advanced payments.
The next mobility roadshow will take place on the 19th, 20th and 21st July 2007 at the NEC Birmingham.
