Government officials and architects in the state of South Dakota
in the USA are working on plans to build a town built entirely for
the deaf community. It will be the first of its kind and the planners
have already been inundated with requests from people all over the
world wanting to move in.
All business activities in Laurent will be carried out in sign language.
In addition all aspects of the town will be designed specifically
for the deaf or hard of hearing. Future residents hope they will
be able to become fully integrated in day-to-day life for the first
time. For more information, visit www.laurentsd.com.
