It is important to note that you have the right to choose your care home. There are lots to choose from, but finding one that is right for you might take some time. You should make sure the care home you choose has the facilities, equipment and staff with the right training to meet your needs.

With a choice of more than 300 residential and nursing homes throughout the UK, Bupa Care Homes can provide the comfort and care you need - whatever your situation.

In all their homes they encourage as full and active a lifestyle as possible for each resident. Above all, each resident is treated as an individual, and encouraged to exercise choice in all aspects of their care. They want residents to feel at home, and rules and regulations are kept to a minimum.

The friendly atmosphere ensures that everyone is able to continue their daily life with personal privacy and dignity, as well as the highest standards of care.

Each home is run by a home manager experienced in the care of older people. They are supported by trained care assistants and senior care assistants and, in nursing homes, registered nurses. They employ dedicated staff, and their Investor in People accreditation reflects the continuing training and development that their staff receives.

Whichever home you choose, you can be sure you will receive the standard of care you expect from Bupa. Each resident receives an individual care plan, which is regularly monitored and updated. Residents are welcome to keep their own GP if they remain in the area, or free to choose a new GP of their choice. Additional services such as physiotherapy, chiropody and speech therapy can be arranged. Appointments such as dentists and opticians are also arranged for residents. All their homes offer a hairdressing service, and additional services such as manicures and complementary therapies can often be arranged.

Specialist care

If you require specialist care, start by talking to your local Bupa care home about your requirements, because many are able to offer specialist care for a variety of conditions. These include dementia and Parkinson's disease, but you may be surprised to know that they can also offer care for younger physically disabled people and for a range of neurological conditions.

Depending on the level of care required, accommodation may be in a residential or nursing home, or in one of our specialist units which have experienced staff and specially adapted environments.

Accommodation

Their homes range from purpose built single storey buildings to converted country mansions, so each home is different. Many rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and some homes offer double rooms. In every home, rooms are equipped with modern safety features including a 24-hour call system, thermostatic radiators and smoke detectors, and most rooms have television and telephone points.

In order to make their room as personal as possible, residents are encouraged to bring personal items and small pieces of furniture with them. In many homes small pets may be accommodated by prior arrangement with the manager.

Activities

They aim to provide a wide range of organised and informal activities for residents of all abilities and interests. Residents are encouraged to continue existing interests and activities, take up new ones, or play a part in the day to day running of the home if they wish. They have a national activities advisor to support and co-ordinate the work of local activities staff, and many homes have dedicated activities rooms.

Cuisine

Meals are prepared each day by the chef manager, using fresh ingredients. There is always a varied menu offering an interesting and nutritious diet. Meals are usually taken in the dining room, but residents may choose to eat in their rooms if they prefer - it's their choice. Their chefs are experienced in catering for special dietary or cultural requirements, and residents' requests are always welcome.

Visitors

They know how important it is for residents to stay in touch with family and friends, so guests are always welcome. There are no set visiting times, and it is up to you whether you meet your visitors in the lounge, the garden or the privacy of your own room. Some homes are also able to offer visitors meals and overnight accommodation.
